What men usually come in for
- Back and shoulders are what most men ask for. The hair there is hard to reach and hard to shave neatly, so laser makes a lot of sense.
- Chest and abdomen, for a cleaner look or to get rid of the itch and stubble of regular shaving.
- The beard line and neck. The face sculpt cleans up the upper cheeks and neckline so your beard keeps its shape without daily trimming. The neck on its own takes ten minutes.
- Ingrown hairs and shaving rash. If shaving leaves bumps on your neck, chest or back, fewer and finer hairs usually mean fewer ingrowns.

How Alma Soprano Titanium works on men's hair
The laser fires three wavelengths (755, 810 and 1064 nm) at the same time, so it reaches follicles at different depths in one pass. Pigment in the hair absorbs the light and turns it into heat, which travels down to the follicle and slows or stops it from making hair. The applicator glides over the area with repeated low-energy pulses and a sapphire tip cooled to minus 4 °C, so the heat builds gradually and the skin stays cool.
Dark, coarse hair, the kind most men want gone, gives the laser plenty of pigment to work with. Hair on the face is driven more by hormones, so the beard area often needs more sessions than the back or chest.
How many sessions men need
Most areas take six to twelve sessions, a few weeks apart. Hair grows in cycles and the laser only treats what is actively growing on the day, so one visit can never catch it all. This is roughly what to expect:
- After session 1, treated hair sheds over 7 to 14 days.
- After sessions 2 and 3, regrowth is slower, thinner and lighter.
- Around session 4, many men only need to shave every six to eight weeks.
- Sessions 5 to 7 bring smoother skin and fewer ingrown hairs and shaving rash.
- From session 8, most men move to occasional maintenance sessions.
Your own plan depends on your hair, your hormones and the area, and your therapist will confirm it at your consultation.
Before your session
- Shave the area the day before or on the day.
- Don't wax, pluck or thread for four weeks before treatment or between sessions.
- Skip fake tan on the area, and tell us if you have been sunburnt or had a lot of sun in the past week.
- Come with clean skin, with no moisturiser, deodorant or aftershave on the area.
- Tell us if your medication, skincare or health has changed since your last visit.
What can stop a session on the day
Now and then we postpone to protect your skin. The usual reasons are sunburn or peeling skin, fake tan on the area, recent waxing or plucking, irritated or broken skin, an active cold sore near the area, and some medications or strong skincare that make skin more sensitive to light. If you are unsure, ring us on 0450 000 083 before you come in.
Aftercare
- Skip heavy exercise, hot showers, saunas and swimming pools for 24 to 48 hours.
- Keep treated skin out of the sun and wear SPF 50 on exposed areas for the whole course.
- Use a gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser. Aloe or a cool compress helps if the skin feels warm.
- Shaving between sessions is fine. Waxing and plucking are not.
- Hairs may look like they are still growing, or fall out, over one to three weeks. That is normal shedding.
