Luxe Dermaplane & Jelly Mask

Some weeks your skin just looks tired. The Luxe Dermaplane and Jelly Mask is the treatment we book in for clients who want a quick, visible reset without booking out half their morning. Dermaplaning lifts away dead skin cells and the fine vellus hairs (the "peach fuzz") that catch light at the wrong angle and make makeup sit unevenly. The cooling jelly mask that follows calms the skin and locks in hydration. You leave with skin that feels noticeably smoother and looks brighter the same day.

What dermaplaning actually does

A trained therapist uses a sterile, single-use surgical blade held at a precise angle to lift away the topmost layer of dead skin and the fine facial hair. There is no chemistry involved and no downtime. The blade glides across the skin's surface. It does not "shave" in the way most people imagine, and the hair grows back the same way it was before. It does not grow back darker or thicker.

Once the skin is freshly polished, your therapist applies a hydrating jelly mask. The mask sits on the skin for about ten minutes, cooling and soothing while pushing in actives that the freshly resurfaced skin can absorb more efficiently than usual.

What the treatment includes

Each session at Aura Skin Boutique includes a skin consultation, a double cleanse, dermaplaning across the face (avoiding the eye area and lips), the jelly mask, and a finishing layer of SPF before you leave. The whole thing takes around 45 minutes.

Who it suits

This treatment is a good fit for clients who:

  • Want an instant glow before an event, photo, or wedding.
  • Are dealing with surface dullness, dryness, or build-up of dead skin.
  • Find that makeup sits unevenly or cakes by mid-afternoon.
  • Want a gentle exfoliation option without the downtime of a chemical peel.

It is not suitable for active acne, severe rosacea flare-ups, or any open lesions. We always do a quick skin assessment before starting.

How long the results last

You will notice the difference the same day. Most clients tell us it lasts around three to four weeks before they want another session. Because dermaplaning lifts about a month's worth of dead skin in one go, this matches the natural cell turnover cycle.

For ongoing skin health, monthly dermaplaning combined with a HydraFacial or a deeper peel works well. Your therapist will recommend a plan that suits your skin and budget.

Aftercare basics

Keep things simple for the first 24 hours. Use SPF whenever you go outside. Avoid retinols, AHAs, or strong actives for 48 hours. Skip saunas and hot yoga for a day. After that you can resume your usual routine and you will probably find your serums absorb better than they did before.

Frequently asked questions

Does dermaplaning hurt?

No. Most clients say it feels like a soft scraping sensation. It is not painful and there is no need for numbing.

Will my hair grow back darker or thicker?

No. This is one of the most common worries and it is a myth. Vellus hair (the fine peach fuzz) grows back at the same colour and thickness it was before.

How is this different from a chemical peel?

A chemical peel uses acids to break down the bond between dead skin cells. Dermaplaning lifts them physically. They give different results and can complement each other in a treatment plan.

Is there any downtime?

None. Your skin may look slightly pink for an hour or two. You can apply makeup the same day if you wish.

How often can I have this treatment?

Once every three to four weeks is the standard interval and matches the skin's natural cell turnover.

Can I have this if I'm pregnant?

Yes. Because dermaplaning is a physical treatment without chemicals, it is one of the few clinical facials we can offer through pregnancy. Let us know in your consultation so we can adjust the products used in the jelly mask if needed.

Will it help with acne?

Not actively. If you have active breakouts, we usually suggest a HydraFacial or our Clear Skin protocol first. Once the active acne has settled, dermaplaning can help with the texture left behind.
