People often arrive having read about one and not the other, then assume they are competing treatments from rival clinics. They are not. CoolPeel and full-face fractional resurfacing run on the same DEKA laser in our Essendon clinic. What changes is how the energy is delivered, and that changes everything about the experience.

What makes CoolPeel different
CoolPeel uses very short, precisely controlled pulses. The energy does its work at the surface and leaves before heat spreads into the surrounding tissue. That is where the name comes from — less residual heat means less inflammation, less redness and a much shorter recovery.
The trade-off is depth. You are refreshing and resurfacing the top layer, not remodelling deeper scar tissue. For someone in their thirties dealing with early texture change, dullness and visible pores, that is often exactly the right amount of treatment. Build it as a series and the results accumulate.
What full-face fractional CO2 does that CoolPeel cannot
Full-face fractional resurfacing drives energy deeper and triggers a much stronger collagen response. That is what you need for indented acne scarring, established sun damage and lines that have set into the skin rather than appearing only when you move your face.
It asks more of you in return. The first two days are hot and visibly red, then several days of dryness and fine shedding, then redness that fades over weeks. Most people take about a week before they are comfortable at work or socially. If you cannot give it that week, do not book it — book CoolPeel instead, or wait for a quieter month. Our day-by-day recovery timeline sets out exactly what each stage looks like.
Choosing between them
Choose CoolPeel if your main concerns are tone, pore visibility and early texture; you want to maintain skin you are broadly happy with; you cannot take meaningful time out; or you would rather build results gradually.
Choose full-face CO2 if you have acne scarring or accumulated sun damage; you have tried gentler resurfacing and want more; and you can plan a week of recovery.
Choose neither if your skin is currently irritated, broken out or sun-exposed, or if your real concern is dehydration and dullness. In that last case a HydraFacial or an advanced peel will cost you far less and get you closer to what you actually want.
What happens at the consultation
We look at your skin under proper light, ask about your history, medications, previous treatments and how your skin has healed before, and talk through what is realistic. Skin type matters here: some skins need more careful management around pigmentation, and that affects both the settings we use and which of the two we recommend.
We will also tell you when the honest answer is "not yet" — for instance if you are mid-breakout, recently sun-exposed, or about to travel somewhere sunny.
See the full details on our CO2 laser treatments page, read what CO2 costs and what to expect, or book a free skin consultation and we will tell you which one your skin actually needs.
Individual results vary. A consultation is required before any CO2 laser treatment.
